LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® is a thinner material, but of high strength steel suitable for roofs and walls. The LYSAGHT CUSTOM BLUE ORB® is a thicker material but of softer strength steel, suitable for pre-curving for use in verandahs and tanks, but also roofs and walls.

No! Any trade can work with steel framing. In fact some trades benefit, for example, bricklayers will install the brick ties by simply clipping them into the stud. Most frames are installed by qualified framers who work with both steel and timber.

As a composite slab, LYSAGHT BONDEK® can be fire-rated up to 4 hours, without the use of a fire spray on the underside of the sheeting.

Some trades may choose to initially charge a little more for a steel framed home reflecting a reluctance to working with steel for the first time. However, with familiarity and competition, most trades quickly change their attitudes to NOT charge a premium for fixing steel. You will be able to enjoy the strength, reliability and convenience of steel frames without paying more.

The high gloss provides greater light reflectance and this reduces the need for additional lighting or translucent roof sheets. The colours have also been chosen to assist in getting this "lighting" affect. The finish is also aesthetically pleasing for open structures.

Each product has benefits and uses in particular situations. As a cladding LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® in a 0.48mm BMT has about the same strength as LYSAGHT CUSTOM BLUE ORB® in 0.60mm. Therefore, if you don't need to curve the material and it is required for cladding, the thinner steel would be more economical.

Most fences feature galvanised steel posts and COLORBOND® steel infill sheets. Immersing the galvanised steel posts in concrete does not cause any corrosion problems but you should not allow the concrete to contact the rails or infill sheets of the fence. Check with your fencing supplier.

No, we recommend LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®, in 0.42mm or 0.48mm base metal thickness (BMT) for roofing purposes. LYSAGHT CUSTOM BLUE ORB®, 0.6mm BMT can also be used for curved roofing. LYSAGHT WALLCLAD® is available in a 0.55mm base metal thickness (BMT). Bluescope Lysaght recommends 0.42mm BMT as a minimum for roofing purposes. LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® is our equivalent corrogated profile for roofing, which is available as 0.42mm and 0.48mm BMT. LYSAGHT CUSTOM BLUE ORB® in 0.6mm BMT can also be used for curved roofing.

LYSAGHT TRIMWALL® is available in a 0.35mm base metal thickness (BMT). For roofing products we recommended using 0.42mm or 0.48 BMT our roofing equivelent for TRIMWALL® is TRIMDEK®

Yes! When installed correctly, steel frames are safe because the frames are earthed. When exposed to a live wire, the earthing will create a short and trip the residual current safety switch reducing the chance of electrocution. All new housing is required to be fitted with residual current safety switches. At times, steel framing can actually be safer than the alternatives because of these safety features.

LYSAGHT EMLINE® Gutter is the largest of our residential gutters. It is only produced in Queensland due to the heavy rainfall experienced in this state. The front measures 140mm, the base is 125mm and the back is 89mm. It is available with a slotted front for overflow during heavy rain.

You have the choice of fixing to our LYSAGHT NOVALINE® Fascia System using our secret fixed Spring Clip and Overstrap that require no drilling or screwing, or the General Purpose Bracket which is attached to other fascias with rivets or screws. No! The move to lighter gauge materials and boxed sections in the frames allows the use of new nailing techniques or cheaper needle point screws. Nailing, or a combination of nails and screws may also be used depending on the application.

With steel in house frames, this movement is negligible due to minimal direct heat transfer to the frame, even in hot weather. Furthermore, steel possesses a compatible expansion coefficient with that of plasterboard, thereby minimising the incidence of cracking. It is neither better nor worse - it is a different type of movement. If steel is exposed to direct heat, it would tend to expand and contract over a relatively short time cycle, whereas timber shrinks, expands and creeps over a somewhat longer time.

While steel framing may have higher sound transmission characteristics than that of timber frames there will be no shrinkage or cracking noises due to frame settlement, so steel frames will not be any noisier than any other framing material.

LYSAGHT SPANDEK® is a deeper cladding and therefore, has a greater spanning ability and higher water carrying capabilities. However, because it is a deeper cladding, it cannot be sprung curved to the same tight curves as LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®.

"LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®" is the name given to the "corrugated iron" cladding shape made by Lysaght. The name came from the customs stamp on the corrugated iron when it was first imported from England about 150 years ago. The stamp was of the royal "orb" (ball shape on top of the royal staff). The colour reference relates to the type of steel used many years ago. The "blue" was referred to as the soft steel and the "red" referred to the hard or strong steel. The "red" in the name has been dropped over the years.
